গাজীপুর নির্বাচনকে যারা দুই দলের অগ্নিপরীক্ষা হিসাবে মূল্যায়ন করে ক্ষমতাসীন দলের জন্য লালকার্ড হিসাবে দেখছেন তাদের সাথে দ্বিমত করতে চাই। এ নির্বাচন কখনোই দুই দলের নির্বাচন ছিলনা। এ ছিল আওয়মী লীগ বনাম আওয়ামী লীগের নির্বাচন। বিদ্রোহী প্রার্থী জাহাঙ্গীর, এরশাদের জাপা সমর্থন অথবা আওয়ামী নেত্রীত্বের অনৈক্য এখানে ডিসাইসিভ ফ্যাক্টর হিসাবে কাজ করেনি। এ নির্বাচন ছিল দেশটার তৃণমূল পর্যায়ে বেড়ে উঠা ঐতিহ্যবাহী আওয়ামী লীগ বনাম ক্ষমতার মসনদের বসা চোর, লুটেরা, খুনি ও নৈতিক অধঃপতনের বস্তিতে বাস করা আওয়ামী লীগের লড়াই। গণতন্ত্র নামক গিলোটিনের নীচে পাঁচ বছর পর পর শাসকদের মাথা রাখতে হয় এবং জনগণ খোলা তরবারি হাতে জল্লাদের ভূমিকায় অবতীর্ন হয়, আমাদের নির্বাচন আক্ষরিক অর্থে এ চক্রে ঘুরপাক খাচ্ছে। বার বার প্রমাণিত হচ্ছে এ দেশে নির্বাচন মানে ইস্যুর উপর রায় অথবা যোগ্যতার জয়-পরাজয় নয়, বরং ক্ষমতাসীনদের কর্মকান্ডের উপর গণভোট। বর্তমান ক্ষমতাসীন দল আওয়ামী লীগ সে গণভোটে একটার পর একটা পরাজয় বরণ করে চলছে। খুব কি অবাক হওয়ার মত কোন ঘটনা?

যাদের চোখে আওয়ামী পরাজয় মানে ৭১’এর মুক্তিযুদ্ধের পরাজয়, মৌলবাদ তথা জঙ্গিবাদের উত্থান, দেশকে পাকিস্তানে ফিরিয়ে নেয়ার চক্রান্ত, তাদের বোধহয় মোহ ভঙ্গের সময় হয়েছে। দেশের কোটি কোটি মানুষের চোখে এ মুহূর্তে আওয়ামী লীগের একমাত্র পরিচয় ব্যাংক লুটেরা হিসাবে, শেয়ার বাজার ধর্ষক হিসাবে, ডেসটিনির সহযোগী হিসাবে, পদ্মাসেতু ভক্ষণকারী আবুলের গডফাদার হিসাবে। মুক্তিযুদ্ধের চেতনায় শাহবাগ মঞ্চ ভাসানো গেলেও দেশকে যে ভাসানো যায়নি তারই প্রমাণ একটার পর একটা নির্বাচনী রায়। দেশকে দুর্নীতির মহামারিতে ভাসিয়ে, জাতির গলায় ছাত্রলীগ নামক মার্ডারাস বাহিনী ঝুলিয়ে, বিশ্বখ্যাত ডক্টর মোহম্মদ ইউনূসের পেছনে লেগে মুক্তিযুদ্ধের গান গাওয়া এক অর্থে বেশ্যার মুখে গীতা পাঠের শামিল। তাই গাজীপুরের ভোট জনগণ মান্নানকে দেয়নি, বিএনপি তথা শহীদ জিয়ার স্বপ্ন বাস্তবায়নের অলীক স্বপ্নে সীলা মারেনি, বরং এ সীল ছিল শেখ হাসিনার দম্ভের বিরুদ্ধে, অহমিকার বিরুদ্ধে, মতিঝিলের লাশ নিয়ে ঠাট্টা করার বিরুদ্ধে, ডেসটিনির বিরুদ্ধে, হলমার্কের বিরুদ্ধে, শেয়ার বাজারের মাধ্যমে বিনিয়োগকারীদের সর্বশান্ত করার বিরুদ্ধে, সুরঞ্জিত চোরের বিরুদ্ধে, আবুল চোরার বিরুদ্ধে, বিকাশ হত্যার বিরুদ্ধে, লিমনের পা কেটে পঙ্গু বানানোর বিরুদ্ধে, ইলিয়াস আলী গুম করার বিরুদ্ধে, সিলেট কলেজের হোষ্টেল পোড়ানোর বিরুদ্ধে, বিরোধী নেতাদের পায়ে ডান্ডাবেড়ি পরানোর বিরুদ্ধে, থানা পুলিশের চাঁদাবাজীর বিরুদ্ধে, ছাত্রলীগের টেন্ডারবাজির বিরুদ্ধে, গ্রামীন ব্যাংক ও ডক্টর মোহম্মদ ইউনূসকে হেনস্তা করার বিরুদ্ধে। হতে পারে জনগণ এসব পশু শক্তির কাছে জিম্মি, অসহায়, কিন্তু ব্যালট পেপার হাতে নিয়ে যখন তিন দিক হতে ঘেরা বুথে ঢুকে তখন তারা আর অসহায় নয়। তাদের হাতে থাকে ব্যালট নামক টাইম বোমা। এ বোমা কেবল শেখ হাসিনা নয় গোটা আওয়ামী লীগকে এক কালের মুসলিম লীগের পাশ সমাহিত করার শক্তি রাখে।

সিটি কর্পোরেশনের নির্বাচন কেবল আওয়ামী লীগের জন্য বার্তা নয়, ক্ষমতার পথযাত্রী বিএনপি-জামাত জোটের জন্যও তা সতর্ক সংকেতঃ ক্ষমতা পৈত্রিক সূত্রে পাওয়া সম্পত্তি নয় যার উপর আজীবন ঘুঘু চড়ানো যাবে। তারেক-ককো, মামুন আর হারিস গংদের ইতিহাস এত তাড়াতড়ি ভুলে যাওয়ার ইতিহাস নয়। তাই ক্ষমতার ভিত্তি শক্ত করতে চাইলে জনগণের রায় হতে শিক্ষা নিন। গাজীপুরের রায়ই শেষ রায় নয়।

চুক্তি অনুযায়ী ৭ টাকা ৭৮ পয়সায় প্রতি ইউনিট বিদ্যুৎ কেনার কথা সরকারের। কিন্তু ১০ হাজার টাকা দিয়ে এক ইউনিট বিদ্যুৎ কিনছে পিডিবি। যা কিনা আমরা কিনছি পিডিবি থেকে ৪ টাকায়। বিদ্যুতে বিপুল পরিমাণ ভর্তুকির পুরো টাকাটা যাচ্ছে রেন্টাল মালিকদের পকেটে। রেন্টালে একটা কথা চালু আছে। চললে লাভ, না চললে আরো লাভ। যে রেন্টালটিকে সরকার বন্ধ রাখতে বলে, বন্ধ থাকলেও সেটি বিল পায়। মাসে একদিন উৎপাদন করে ওই হিসেবে বিল গুণে দেয়া হয়।

পাওয়ারপ্যাকের ফার্নেস অয়েলচালিত ১০০ মেগাওয়াট কুইক রেন্টাল কেন্দ্রটি গত ১ থেকে ২৯ নভেম্বর উত্পাদন পুরোপুরি বন্ধ রাখা হয়। ৩০ নভেম্বর ১১ হাজার ৮৮০ ইউনিট বিদ্যুৎ উত্পাদনে জ্বালানি ব্যয় হয় ১ লাখ ৬০ হাজার টাকা, যার বিপরীতে পিডিবি বিল পরিশোধ করে ১১ কোটি ৮৬ লাখ। ইউনিটপ্রতি ব্যয় দাঁড়ায় ৯ হাজার ৯৮৪ টাকা। এতে অজ্বালানি ব্যয় ১১ কোটি ৮৪ লাখ টাকা। বিতরণ কোম্পানির কাছে ৪ টাকা ৭০ পয়সা ইউনিট বিক্রি করায় নভেম্বরে পিডিবির লোকসান হয় ১১ কোটি ৮৫ লাখ টাকা। খবর বণিক বার্তার।

রেন্টাল এ সরকারের লুটপাটের প্রধান খাত। বিএনপি যেমন খাম্বা বসিয়েছিল, এ সরকার রেন্টাল দিয়ে সেই একই কাজ করেছে। গত অর্থবছরে (২০১২-১৩) রেন্টালে ব্যয় হয়েছে ভর্তুকির ৯৯ দশমিক ৮২ শতাংশ অর্থ। ৫ হাজার ১৭২ কোটি টাকা ভর্তুকি দেয়া হয় গত বছর। এছাড়া রেন্টালের জন্য জ্বালানি তেল আনতে আরো ৮ হাজার কোটি টাকা ভর্তুকি দেয়া হয়। এভাবে দেশের টাকা, গরীব জনমানুষের টাকা পরিকল্পিতভাবে তুলে দেয়া হচ্ছে পুঁজিপতিদের হাতে। দেশের উন্নয়ন ঠেকিয়ে গুটিকয়েকের উন্নয়নেই সরকারের মনোনিবেশ!

Professor Yunus was chosen by Wharton School of Business for PBS documentary, as one of "The 25 Most Influential Business Persons of the Past 25 Years" Among others were : Bill Gates, George Soros, Oprah Winfrey, Jeff Bezos, Richard Branson, Warren Buffertt, Michael Dell, Alan Greenspan, Lee Lacocca, Charles Schwab, Frederick Smith, and Sam Walton. PBS aired the programme on January 19, 2004, in their "Nightly Business News".

Profiled in Discovery Channel

In 2004, TV Cable Channel Discovery produced an autobiography documentary film series titled "Crossings". In each episode it featured "one individual who made significant contribution to society as a result of certain experiences in life." Twelve Asians were profiled in this series. Professor Muhammad Yunus was one of them. He was the only one from the South Asian countries. Among others were : Chinese actress-director Joan Chan, international action movie star Jackie Chan, Thai elephant keeper Saudia Shawalla, and Malaysian cartoonist Datuk Laat.
