She asks party men to unite, work for polls
AL to send names to CA for talks soon

A day after release from 11-month detention, the Awami League president Sheikh Hasina left Dhaka International Airport by British Airways for the USA on Thursday morning.

Shiekh Hasina, accompanied by her personal aide Dr Hasan Mahmud and chief security officer Brigadier General (Retd) Tareq Siddiqui, left ZIA for overseas treatment 8:27am yesterday.
The AL chief, with severe problems in eyes and ears, is scheduled to meet her sister Sheikh Rehana during a four-hour stopover at Heathrow Airport, London, said Hasan Mahmud yesterday before leaving Sudha Sadan for airport.

Meanwhile, Sheikh Hasina urged Awami League leaders and activists to remain united and work together in a bid to build up a strong political base for contesting in upcoming general election that would restore country's democracy.

"Without any prior-conditions, I was released. I hope that after recovery from my illness, I would return from abroad after eight weeks," acting AL general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam quoted Sheikh Hasina as saying while briefing the newsmen after her departure for overseas treatment.
The AL president said that her party will take part in the next general election.
Seeking blessings from the countrymen for successful treatment of her damaged eyes and ears, the AL president conveyed her gratitude to the people of Bangladesh and party followers for their efforts to free her from custody.

Replying to the future of the dialogue with the government, Ashraful Islam said, "The talks has already started through bilateral meeting between the four advisers to the caretaker government and AL leaders led by Sheikh Hasina at her Dhanmondhi's Sudha Sadan residence late Wednesday night. Our dialogue with the government will continue and after Hasina's return from abroad, she expressed her desires to join the final phase of talks."

He also said, the AL his party would reply the government's letter with regards to sending the names of the AL representatives to the Chief Adviser for the dialogue within a day or two.
According to AL sources, the emergency meeting of AL Presidium members is likely to be held at Zillur Rahman's Gulshan residence today (Friday). This meeting will discuss the prevailing political situation, mainly dialogue issues.

Hasina discusses polls over phone

Chief Adviser Fakhruddin Ahmed spoke to AL president Sheikh Hasina over phone in presence of the four advisers and other senior AL leaders who were holding a meeting as part of dialogue with AL at Sudha Sadan from 10:20pm to 11:15pm Wednesday night.

Everyone in the room however could listen to the telephonic discussion between AL chief and Chief Adviser on the day through using loudspeaker. Hasina urged the CA to create a congenial atmosphere for ensuring a free, fair and transparent poll for the greater interest of the country.

Dr Fakhruddin also agreed on the importance of holding fair, participatory, credible and meaningful election within the stipulated time frame, said meeting sources adding the Chief Adviser also called upon the people to pray for Hasina's early recovery so that she may take part in the final dialogue.
After the dialogue, Commerce Adviser Dr Hossain Zillur Rhaman said to waiting journalists, "Hasina is voluntarily going for overseas treatment and we hope that she would be amongst us with good health and play an effective and experienced role in the ongoing process. Moreover, AL has wealth of experience and we have many things to learn from them."

He also hoped that they would be able to sit with the Bangladesh Nationalists Party very soon. The other three advisers - who attended the talks with AL - are AF Hasan Ariff, Major General (Retd) Ghulam Kader and Dr Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury.

ALWC meeting Held After a few hour of Hasina's release for overseas treatment, AL Central Working Committee held hour-long an emergency with party president Sheikh Hasina in the chair at Sudha Sadan at 8pm on Wednesday.

The AL spokesman Syed Ashraf briefed the newsmen at the gate saying "AL decided to join the government dialogue led by acting party president Zillur Rahman and Sheikh Hasina has expressed her cordial support to the six-point demands of AL raised recently."
